Well it hasn't started raining ...yet...looks pretty ugly out there AND none of my jumps will stay upright it is so windy right now!

So I think we will move these classes for tonight to Monday night the 24th. 6pm Jump and 7:15pm Distance and we will hope for the best!

Tue March 16

Evening Handling classes finished on the 16th.

11am Handling 2/3 is done and will NOT run this next session.

Jump Class at 7pm we are on class 4

We will have an open drop in time on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am -1pm.

Rally O Stuff

We will have a Rally O Funmatch Friday April 2 at 10am.

The entry forms for the Rally O trial April 17/18 should be up on the web site and also available at the training centre. Deadline is April 9th.

Lynda Orton Hill Agility Foundation Seminar

We will be closed for Classes on March 27 and 28 for the Lynda Orton - Hill Seminar. Conformations will go out to everyone register for this seminar this week.

This seminar is full for working spots but has unlimited auditing spots available. If you have a young dog or are just getting started with your training and would like to pursue agility with your dog then you should come and audit this seminar!

Lynda will also be doing a session on Saturday night from 5pm - 6:30pm on how to get organized and set goals for the coming training season. This is a fundraiser for the CKC Agility Team Canada that will be compteing at the FCI world championships in Germany in October.Cost is $20.00 per person.

Pawsitive Steps Agility Camp

The registration for the Agility Camps is up and they are coming in fast! If youplan to attend the camps this year get your registration forms in ASAP!!!

AAC Trials

Our June 4/5/6, 2010 Agility Trial registration forms will be out in a couple of weeks. It will be a regional Prep trial and will be held at Henke's Farm.

Our July trial will be held between the two Camps at Roberts Roost Campground and will be July 16-18, 2010. Forms for that will be out in May.

Hi all,

I will be leaving on Wed March 10 for Vancouver as we have some family health issues we need to deal with on the way down to the coast. My Tuesday classes will run as usual. Classes will resume March 16 and I am home until April 9.

Wed March 10th the centre will be open to those in the 6pm and 7pm contacts and weaves classes to practice. Jeanne will be there to open up at 6:30pm til around 7:30pm. If you wish to go in and work please feel free to do so.

Well I can't believe it is December already!!! Yikes! Here is the upcoming stuff...

Photo Shoot

Dec 5th NOT 6th as I accidently put in the last post, Joy Miller will be doing portraits at Top Dog for Christmas. She is offering up her time as a fundraiser for the Regional Handlers fund. Please sign up for your appointment at Pawsitive Steps.

That being said we need people who are part of the Regional handlers group to sign up to help Joy with the dogs. So far only Rob and Mike have signed up. It is half an hour out of your day guys and she is doing this for US!!!!

Christmas Party

December 12th is the combined Top Dog and Pawsitive Steps Christmas Party. Set up at 4pm ( we can use lots of help) and party starts at 6pm.

Pot Luck sign up sheet is on the wall at Pawsitive Steps. Please sign up by Dec 10 so we know how many tables and chairs we will need.

Don't forget your SPCA donation for the Wish List! Just bring it to the Christmas Party!

We are closed Dec 23 to Jan 1st. Classes will resume Jan 2.

Drop In Practice

We will have some drop in times over Xmas for agility practice. There will be a sign up sheet at the centre. Free to those who have AVID Trainer cards that have not expired. You Must be a student in our classes to attend. 5.00 per dog for anyone without a current AVID trainer card. If you are not sure if your card has expired check with me at the centre.

Lynda Orton Hill Seminar March 27/28

The working spots are full for the Lynda Orton Hill Seminar but there is always auditing spots available. Please sign up at the centre. The forms are also available on the web site.

Hi all,

My 8:30pm Handling classes and Contacts and Weaves classes from now on will start at 8:15pm so please be there at 8:10pm.

There is a new schedule posted on the web site.Please make sure you get in to sign up for this new set of classes!!!

We have sign up sheets for the Xmas Party Pot Luck on Dec 12, Dr Jewell app in Jan and anyone who wants Bio Iso G at the centre.

Joy Miller will be doing a photo shoot on Dec 6th for Xmas pictures of your dogs, anyone who wants an appointment with Joy please sign up for a spot at the centre.This is a fundraiser for the Regional Handlers. All members of the Regional Handlers group are expected to sign up for an hour block to help Joy with the dogs in the shoot.

The drop in times over Xmas break are for current students only. The Novice dogs will work from 11am -1:30pm and Advanced from 1:30-3pm. Please sign up.Cost is $5.00 per dog unless you have an AVID trainer card that has not expired.

If you have not submitted your legs and titles and photos for the Xmas party you have until Friday to do it. After that we will be putting together the Power Point and will not be able to add anything.

We are combining our Xmas party and Top Dog's Xmas party on Dec 12. We will need lots of help setting up. If you are available to come down early then please let us know. We will need help from both groups both setting up and cleaning up. Contact myself or David Greenberg if you can come down early.

We will once again be doing the SPCA Wish list for the Xmas party. There will be a list up at the centre. We hope to get one of everything on the list. Please help by donating and bringing your donation with you to the Xmas party.

There is one or two working spots left in the Lynda Orton Hill seminar to be held at the end of March at Pawsitive Steps. There is unlimited auditing spots. Please sign up at the centre. This seminar is primarily geared towards Novice/Intermediate level dogs.

Hi everyone,

The new Handling class starts tonight. We will do a combined 1/2 and 2/3 class at my place, set up at 6:30pm, since it is still so nice.

If you have not filled out Registration forms for this class please do so this week.

Contacts and weaves 2/3 is going to be at my house for this week (weather permitting) at 6pm and the 1/2 class class will be at the centre at 7:15pm.

There will be no jump class on Thur as the weather looks iffy. The new set of jump classes start Oct 1st. 8:30pm will be a Jump 1/2 class.

Hi all,

If you have not emailed me for an appointemnt but would like an appointment on Sept 29 with Gail please let me know ASAP.

For those who do not know who Dr Jewell is, she is the chiropractic vet from kelowna that works on all my dogs. She is an excellent holistic plus traditional plus massage and chiro vet. She will not do the things your regular local vet can do but anything injury or sport related she is amazing at and the dogs LOVE her.

I try to have her look at my dogs every 3-4 months to make sure nothing gets missed, these are active dogs who sustain minor injury all the time, left undiagnosed those injuries can cause major complications later as the dogs learn to compensate for soreness.

Cost is 65.00 for repeaters 75.00 for a new client plus we charge 20-25 dollars per person to cover her airfare.

Hi Everyone,

Well we are into the new building and classes are up and running. There is still a few things to do but the important parts are done. Rob is putting the enclosure at the back of the building so that our dogs can have a secure place to be when they need to go out.

Please note:

No food or drinks in the training area until the floors have been sealed. This goes for dog water as well. There is a dog water dish in the office and one outside in the compound if your dog needs water.During a one hour class your dogs should be fine until they get home.

Please do not leave your crates at the building. We do not have room to store crates for people. You are welcome to bring your crates back and forth.

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all who helped with the move. I have not forgotten you and I have a list of everyone who came out. I will be sending out personal thank you's during the month of September.

Classes

There are a new set of classes starting up soon. I have a foundation Handling and Jump 2/3 Class starting Sept 3rd. I also have a Tue morning Handling class starting again at 11:15am on Sept 15th. This will be a level 1/2, not 2/3. Contacts and weaves in the AM on Tue will start again Sept 22nd.

Our classes are going to go back to the six week sets except for the Manners Classes and Advanced Pet Obedience. All other classes will run 6 weeks.
So class fees are 120.00 for the 8 week classes and 90.00 for the 6 week sets.

AVID Trainer Cards

We will not be renewing AVID trainer cards once they expire since we don't have the dog wash and we don't have the drop in times available anymore. AVID trainers will still get AVID trainer prices on the classes and trials until their cards expire.

Missed Classes

Please remember, if you miss a class, you lose it ( so please try not to miss!!!). With cutting back to one room we don't have as many classes available and therefore the classes we do run will likely be full. If you know ahead of time you will be away please let us know and you can pay the PER CLASS FEE for the classes you will be able to attend. Individual classes are $17.00.(this includes GST).

Winter Skills Camp

Winter Skills Camp dates have changed to Oct 30-31 and Nov 1, 2009. There will be a Novice session and an Advanced session. Registration forms will be available on the web site next week.

Rally O Trials

Forms for the Sept 26th Rally O Trial are up on the web site now. Please get them in ASAP.We will be doing a couple more Rally O Trials during the winter months as well.

Rainbow Bridge

We have lost quite a few of our older dogs in the last few months. We say goodbye to Denise McLean's Weimeraner Shadow, Teri Lory's Airdale Tako, Sylvie Fefer's Border Terrier Django, and very close to my heart, Mary and Phil Zacharatos lost Skye in August. These were great dogs and they will all be missed.

Hi all,

The entry forms for our one day Sept 26 Rally O trial are available at the centre and will be on line as soon as our internet service is back up ( supposed to be Aug 8 ).

We have changed the dates for Winter camp to Oct 30,31 and Nov 1. Registrations for that will be available at the end of August.

Remember that our address has changed. It is now 1839 1st ave PG BC V2L-2Y8. Same phone number as before. 250 614-7297.
Summer Hours are Mon-Wed 10am to 1pm for registration.

We also have some things that need to be picked up from the new building. There are 2 ladders and we aren't sure who owns them plus various pairs of shoes from the old building. We have brought them over to the new building but if they are unclaimed we will be giving them back to the shoe fairy who left them all! LOL!

There is a new schedule out for classes and various classes that are still in progress. My classes will not run from Aug 14 to Aug 28.

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we are having and good luck to everyone going to the Top Dog trial this weekend. I will once again be updating my knowledge base by attending an Advanced Jumping clinic with Susan Salo this weekend.

Hi everyone,

We got in half the mats yesterday before everyone finally had enough! Thanks to everyone who came out and lugged mats and went home with raw fingers! We will work on getting the rest in tonight after 6pm for anyone who wants to come out and help. This is a bit of a tedious job since the mats aren't all perfect width so you have to pick and choose what mat goes where, kind of like a giant jigsaw puzzle!

We will hopefully have the mats in tonight or tomorrow night and can start brining stuff from the old building over. I will keep everyone updated.

Mats are out!

Hi all,

OK mats are out! Holy man did they come out fast! THANK YOU to everyone who came and helped, especially the two fork lift drivers Mike and Tracey and all the people who lugged those huge mats in this heat!!!! Thank you to Top Dog as well for allowing us to store the excess mats until we can move them. If anyone is interested in any of the matting they are 40.00 a piece ( 80.00 brand new so a pretty good deal). There is some already spoken for but about 800.00 sq ft left available.

We will be unloading the horse trailer at 9am tomorrow and then going to the new building to start laying mats there at 1pm. The new building should be painted by tonight ( thanks you to everyone who came and helped paint and wash windows etc today!). And thanks to Diane S for finding us Jeremy to do most of the painting!!!

I am not sure if all the mats will be in by Sunday night or not so I will post again later tomorrow on progress for those who asked about plans for the week. We will be moving stuff from the old building to the new building all week so pick up trucks would be very welcome! There is lots of little stuff that needs to get moved as well.

Also we need to do the BBQ on Sunday Aug 2 since Saturday is moving day for Donna and I said we would help. So Sunday Aug 2nd and I said 3pm but if it is really going to be 35 degrees maybe we should start a bit later in the day, like 5pm.Our house gets SOOOO hot with this weather!

And speaking of the hot weather there will be no classes at my house this week at all, first it is too darn hot, second, with all the camp stuff and now moving stuff we have a forest out back because we don't have time to mow!!!!

Well we are finally home from camp and had a shower and managed to throw in a load of laundry! And off we go full speed ahead to getting us relocated to our new building! So here is the schedule for the next few days!

Friday July 24 - 6pm - painting the new building, this will continue Saturday morning as they are moving the mats in.

Saturday July 25 - 9am - Meet at old building and start to pull up the flooring and move it over to the new building. This will be an all day project I would suspect but of course we don't expect people to be there all day!!! We will be there all day of course! There will be pizza and drinks for everyone who comes out to help, it will be at the old building at 1pm.HUGE thank you to Mike Shortland for the use of the bobcat with the forklift and his trailer!!! Also to Tracey D for being the forklift driver extraordinaire at the new building!!!

Sunday July 26 - 9am - unload the horse trailer at Kim and Rob's.All the equipment is still in Carolyn's horse trailer and apparently they would like their trailer back sometime so I guess we have to unload it:o)

Sunday July 26 - 1pm - laying mats in the new building. Again we will feed anyone who comes out to help!!

( and possibly still painting if need be )

Monday, 6pm July 27 - Moving stuff from old building into new building.We can use all the trucks we can get for this!

Tuesday July 28 - 6pm - Handling class at Kim's for anyone registered for this class

Pawsitive Steps is moving!

Hi Everyone,

In January of this year our lease expired at our facility at 3444 Opie Crescent. We have been continuing doing business on a month to month basis while evaluating Pawsitive Steps business plan for the future. Although the present facility has served us well over the past 5 ½ years, it as been quite expensive to maintain. We have found that the overhead generated by this facility is too great to continue. Also in light of the recent decline in our economy our client numbers have been somewhat reduced. The facility we presently run is just too large and more than we need to carry out the business that Pawsitive Steps want meant to do.

We began looking for a suitable facility that would be smaller in size, have a lesser cost and still satisfy the basic needs of Pawsitive Steps. We finally found one that met these needs and are presently finalizing negotiations for a lease agreement.

The facility that were are dealing on is a combination of 12E & 12F at 1839 1^st Ave. If this sounds familiar it is because they are the 2 units adjacent to where Top Dog is now located. We have looked into a number of facilities but this one offers what we were looking for at a lease rate that was practical. We will be starting the transition in July and be fully operational by September. The facility is 50 x 85 feet so roughly the same size as the large training room we have now. Classes running in July will remain running at the centre in the small room while we move the flooring in the big room over to the other building.

As a result of the downsizing of Pawsitive Steps we will be making some changes to our current schedule of classes and to the program overall. We will keep everyone posted on these changes via the web site.

We will be making the transition through out the month of July starting with a large garage sale on July 1^st at the centre. We need to sell some of our agility equipment as well as some of the furniture etc in the building as we won't have the room to "collect" extra stuff. If you currently have a crate at the building we ask that you please come and pick it up so that it doesn't get sold in the garage sale!!!

The renovations in the new building will be minimal compared to the last time we had to renovate, but we will need help moving the flooring into the new building. That will be a big job and we will need as many people as we can get so if you can spare an hour here or there (and/or a spouse) please let us know! We will supply food and drinks for everyone who helps out with those mats as well as Pawsitive Steps Gift certificates for anyone who comes out to help with any of the renovations! Rob will be doing some demolition in the new building so if anyone is interested in ripping down walls ( good stress reliever!! ) come on out! We will post a reno "schedule" on the web site as well.

We are looking forward to this new facility allowing all of us the continued opportunity to maintain a high level of training over the coming years. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

Hi Everyone

The contacts and weave 2/3 class will be at my house tonight since it is so nice out. Try to be here for 6:45pm or so.

The contacts and weaves 1 class is finished and since none of you came in to re register there won't be a class tonight. The next class will be June 3rd at 7pm at the centre. It will move to 6pm on June 24.

I am going to do some re arranging of the classes for the summer and I will be adding in a distracted dogs class at the centre Monday night. This class will be for anyone who has a dog that is distracted by other dogs, people, toys, food etc. You must have level 3 crate games ( Your Out Your In ) for this class. If you are interested please email me. It will run on Monday nights at 6pm after Donna's classes on Monday are done.

Monday night classes will be Agility 1/2 combined for the summer and Performance class ONLY if there are enough for the class to continue.

I will be sending out a copy of the summer calendar once it is finalized so that you have it and know where we are at.

Just wanted to say congrats to everyone who earned titles this past weekend at the Top Dog Trial. Way to go! Congrats to Mike Shortland and Dazzle for earning that last jumpers leg for their ATChC!! Plus congrats ( belated because of new ATChC requirements) to Joy Miller and her BC Chase ( who happens to be Dazzle's brother!).

Rally O Trial Friday March 13th

The Rally O trial March 13 went great, LONG but great! We were not expecting quite so many runs! Jeanne Shaw was our fabulous judge and lots of titles earned plus 2 perfect 200's awarded to Lou Dobie and her Belgian Angel! Thanks again to Barb Wright for all the organizing, Diana Spelay for the scoring and Tracy Dery for the Chili that kept everyone going!

The Tuesday morning Contacts and Weaves class has their final class this Tuesday.

Handling 2/3 is finished so there is no class this Tuesday.

Continual Improvevment

In order to keep ourselves up to date on all our training and bring our students the most current training methods, most of the instructors ( and some students too!) will be away attending a part or all of a 10 day seminar with Susan Garrett in Vancouver. Susan is one of the best dog trainers in North America and teaches all over the world. Her mentor and close friend is none other than the famous Bob Bailey. Susan has not been out to BC in 10 years to teach so this is an opportunity that we cannot pass up. We have done our best to not cancell any of the classes during this time and we have arranged subs for most of them. If you are not sure please check with the office prior to your class.

Hi everyone,

We are going to offer a one time 2 hour class for "Distracted Dogs" on Saturday March 7th at 3pm. There is a limited amount of space and this class is for dogs with issues with people, toys, other dogs, motion etc. CRATE GAMES ARE A MUST! You must have your crate games done up to "Your In Your Out" to do this class. Any dogs with issues with other dogs MUST have a gentle leader on when working. Please email me to sign up. Limited to 10 dogs working. There is no charge for this class since I will be working a dog too.

Rally O Trial

Hi Everyone,

well the Rally O trial this weekend was a huge success! Lots of titles earned, lots of great runs! Anne Douglas was great as usual, everyone really enjoyed her and learned a lot from her.

We were also the very first group to run the brand new TEAM event! I think we have a picture of some of the TEAM participants on Barb's camera that we will send out to CARO.

I would like to send a special thanks to Barb for all her hard work on organizing the trial. She did all the trial records, score sheets, gate lists, everything! If you have never run a CARO trial then you have no idea how much work that is! THANK YOU BARB!!!

Also to Tracey Dery for organizing lunch for everyone. It was nice to not have to brave the roads and snow to get some food! Thanks Tracey!

Also to Diana Spelay for doing all the scoring for the weekend. Diana just stepped right in and looked after all the scoring and ribbons. Thanks Diana!

Congratulations to everyone who earned titles, high in trials and to Lou Dobie and Angel for the perfect 200 score! Wow! If you earned a HIT or a title this weekend please email me and I will post it on the web site this week. If you have any pictures you would like to share as well please email them to me.

Hi everyone,

Well we had a great turn out for Dr Jewell, I am so grateful to Gail for working us all into her busy schedule. My dogs all needed a bit of work, even the ones I thought were fine! I feel so much better knowing they have Gail to keep them physically sound, I know I have more aches and pains as I get older and especially after a trial weekend, I am sure they feel the same!

I think we are very fortunate to have Gail come here and work with our dogs on home turf too. There was a massage therapist at the USDAA Trial I was at last weekend and altho I heard he was very good, he charged way more than Gail does AND he isn`t even a vet! I think Gail has been very generous with her time and skills and she always attempts to make it doable for us financially to give our dogs the best care possible.

It was remarkable to see the change in some of the dogs from just before to just after their treatments. And as an instructor I feel so much better when I know my students have had their dogs checked out by Gail. Agility is a tough sport on the dogs physically and it is important to recognize that and try our best to keep them stretched out, warmed up and cooled down and be aware of any changes in their reactions to the stretches and massage.

When Gail was here she took some orders for the Bio-Iso-G. The Small bottle is 52.00 for 239 ml and dose is 2.5 ml per 40 lb. The Large bottle is 155.00 and is 946 ml.

If you want a bottle please bring a cheque (made out to Pawsitive Steps) to the centre on Saturday or Sunday during the Rally O trial. I will send Gail one cheque for all of them on Monday but need to know who wants them.

Hi Everyone,

Well we got another big dump of snow last night! Yikes, I don't know if I can even get out of my driveway!

We will be setting up for the Rally O trial this weekend on Friday night at 6pm. If you are able to come out to help we would greatly appreciate it! The large room needs to be cleaned up of all agility equipment, crates etc, ring barriers set up, small room cleaned out for crating, that kind of stuff. If you wish to come in a drop off your crate Friday night you are welcome to come in at 6pm.

Remember we will have soup and a bun and a drink for $5.00 for lunch each day.

We will be doing check in at 830am and first dog on the line at 9:00am

remember there are no regular classes on Jan 31 or Feb 1 due to the rally trial.

Hi everyone,

Ok a couple of things to let everyone know.

Jan 31 and Feb 1 the centre is closed for regular classes as we have the Rally O trial that weekend. Instructors teaching on Saturday please let your students know this.

Drop In Practice

If you are dropping in on Thursday or Friday mornings to practice please remember that if there are other people there you need to take turns on the floor. Not every dog is happy working with a strange dog so please take no more than 5 minutes on the floor at a time and then give someone else a turn. Also if you have a barking dog please remove the dog from the room when you are not working, you can crate the dogs in the crate room when you are waiting your turn.

Dr Jewell our chiropractic vet will be here once again ( hoping that the weather holds this time!), She will be here Jan 27 and 28. If you would like an appointment with her please email me ASAP.

Also I am away Thur of this week so there are no Jump classes on Thur Jan 22. You are welcome to go in and practice tho!

Hi everyone,

Well I hope you all had a nice relaxing holiday and Happy New Year to everyone!

The Christmas drop in times were a big success, lots of people out to them so that is great. I am always happy to see people really getting the benefit of the centre during our snowy months, and we have a LOT of them!

There is funmatch Jan 4th, all Gamblers rounds. If you are planning to attend please PRE Register by Jan 3rd. We are open for classes on Jan 3rd so pop in and drop off your forms.

I also have Susan Garrett's new 2x2 Traing DVD and I will run it right after the funmatch for anyone who wants to stay and watch it. It is a good idea before you start training the 2x2's that you watch the DVD first so that the process makes sense to you. Anyone who wants to come down is welcome. Probably about 12:30pm.

The new schedule is up on the web site now. Remember many of the classes start up again next week so please get in and register so we know if we have to add or delete certain classes.

The camp brochures will go up on the web site late January as well. Dates for Camp are July 15-17 for Puppy Camp, AAC Trial July 18/19 and Masters Camp July 20-23rd.

Christmas Party etc

Hi all,

Well we are coming down to the wire with the Christmas Party so I need to know how many people to expect! If you have not put your name on the list please do it by Wed so we can get the extra tables and chairs. Also I need to know how many Q's you earned this year in order to award our prizes! Also if you have videos or pictures for the slideshow we need those now.

We will be setting up at 12:30pm on Saturday the 20th so anyone who wants to pop over to help with that we would be thrilled to have you!

The Christmas party will start at 5pm. Bring your holey board arm as well since we will once again have our tournament!!

Thanks to everyone who braved the cold weather to attend the funmatch and to all our new students who came out and learned how to time and scribe! They did a great job! We are looking forward to having them out to help at some of our trials in the future. They will be working hard in 2009 to get their new dogs up and running as well!

We are closed as of the 21st and will re open on Jan 3rd. So those of you with Saturday classes you will only miss the 27th.

Drop in practice days are the 27, 29 and 30th. 11-1 for Novice and 1-3 for advanced, please sign up ahead of time. If there are not enough people wanting to come in over the holidays we will just cancel those drop in times.

Looking forward to visiting with everyone at the Christmas party! Especially those of you that we haven't seen much of lately!!!

Hi all,

Well we have lots of things coming up in the month of December and I have had some questions about stuff so here goes....

December 14th Agility Funmatch start time 10am.

Please sign up this week if you are planning to attend. If we don't have enough dogs we will cancel.

Dec 14th - Info For New Competitors right after funmatch if it runs or at 12pm if not.

If you are planning to attend this event please register now as I need to organize notes etc for everyone.

Dec 15th - deadline for photos and titles for slide show!!!

Please make sure you have all photos and tiles in to us for the slide show at the Christmas party. There will be special prizes for top dogs again but we need you to submit those legs and titles to be considered.I need number of Q's earned this year in each sport and also any titles earned.

Dec 16 & 17 - Dr Jewell Chiro Appointments

If you have not signed up for Dr Jewell please come down to the centre and do this ASAP. We need to know we have enough people to make it go.

Dec 20 - Christmas Party and Pot Luck

Please sign up for the Xmas party and pot luck by Dec 15th so that we know if we need more tables and chairs or you won't have a seat!

Drop In Practice Times over Xmas break

Dec 27, 29 and 30 there will be open Agility Practice in the large room and Rally O and Obedience in the small room. Novice dogs 11:00am-1:00pm and Advanced dogs 1:00pm - 3:00pm

SPCA Donation Table

We will have a table up DEC 1 for SPCA donations plus a bin for any old leashes, collars and dogs toys you do not use any more. We will get a copy of their wish list again and see if we can fill as much as possible.

Christmas Party Dec 20th

There is a sign up sheet at the centre for the Christmas party and Pot Luck. Please let us know if you and any family members are coming ( everyone is welcome) and what you will be bringing to the potluck.Also if you have pictures for the slide show please get them to rob ASAP.

Info for New competitors

We have moved the session for the New competitors to Dec 14th right after the funmatch. We hope anyone interested in this session will come out to the funmatch and learn the ropes. We will help you to learn to scribe, time, gate keep, ring crew as well as get to be involved in the briefings by the judge etc.Start time is 10am and then we will stay after the funmatch to measure dogs and talk thru some other rules and information for you.Sign up sheets are at the training centre.

Holiday Hours

We will be closed over the holidays for regular classes as of Dec 21 to Jan 2. Classes resume Jan 3rd.

We will be open for some drop in practice times.

January 31 Feb 1, 2009 CARO Rally O Trial

Winter Camp is over!

Well our first Winter Skills Camp is over and was a huge success. The dogs were fantastic, the people even better! Everyone came out with an open mind and ready to work! I was so impressed! Their enthusiasm kept me going during the 9 hours of teaching each day!

I want to thank all the participants for coming out to support this camp (at the end of November yet, we had great weather for the most part), and I would like to extend a VERY heart felt thanks to Barb Wright, Brenda Colebrook, Michelle Makelke, Tracey Dery, Rob Struthers and my mom Pat Krebs for all their help during the three days of camp.Could not have done this without you all.

Hopefully we will have some pictures from this camp for the slide show at the Christmas Party Dec 20th.

Hi All

Everyone's favorite Dr.Gail Jewell will be at the centre Dec 16-17 to work on our dogs. She will be available in the afternoon evening of the 16 and the daytime on the 17. What a great xmas present to our dogs! A massage and chiro check to make sure they are all physically sound for the Christmas break! If you have never had your athletic dog checked by Gail I would HIGHLY recommend that you have an assessment done by Gail. New clients are 75.00 and returning are 60.00 plus 25.00 per person for travel expenses. All appointments are done at the training centre. My dogs LOVE her. The puppies will get their first massage too!! Great introduction to the vet for the puppies!

Legs and titles

Just a reminder to send me your legs and titles earned for 2008 plus any photos you would like in the slide show!

We need all the info in by Friday so we can start to work on putting it all together. If someone wants to get us the videos of your regionals runs we can show that too with the video we have taken at some of the trials this year.

Photo Shoot with Alex

Hi All,

Alex is going to be at the centre on Sunday Nov 9th at 10am for anyone wanting pictures of their puppies (or any other shots of your dogs but puppies get priority). Please make sure you book ahead. We want to try to get a picture of all the puppies that show up all together so try to work on a sit stay between now and then! Ya right!

Anyway, these would make cute Xmas presents, bring props as well, toys, baskets, etc if you want!

Fun Match Entries

The entries for the winter fun matches are now up on the site. You
may find them on the "Events" page.
There are three fun matches scheduled. December 14 will be all
standard runs, January 4 will be gamblers and February 15 will be
jumpers. These matches are a great chance to practice with your
competition dog, or give your new dog, and you, a chance to try out
agility in a trial setting.

Pawsitive Steps Updates

Hi all,

Just a few quick updates for everyone....

Classes

We are changing all our classes to 8 week sessions. Please check when you register for your next class to see if your classes have been moved to this new length or if there is one more set of 6 weeks before it is changing. Some of the Rally O classes are only 6 weeks right now but will be changing to 8 weeks as well.Those of you on the monthly plan talk to me and we will adjust your fees for 2009 to reflect this.

Kim's Classes

My Tue night Handling classes and Tue morning Classes are now done and they will resume Nov 4 not Oct 28. The Wed Contacts and Weaves will also resume Nov 5th. Please come in this week and register.

I will be away Thursday Nov 20 so Jump classes will be cancelled for that day although you are welcome to come in and work as usual.

Winter Agility Skills Camp

The deadline for the Winter Skills camp is Nov 1st. If you are planning to attend please get your registration forms in ASAP. I am working on the groups and schedule in this next couple weeks. This camp is open to anyone at any level.

Info for New Competitors

I will be holding a session for our "new to agility" students Sunday December 7th from 1pm -4pm. We will cover everything from what to bring to a trial, how to get your dog ID cards, how to fill out entry forms correctly, some basic rules of AAC, how to ring crew, time, scribe, rules for the ring, walking courses etc. Everything you will need to know for the 2009 season where some of you will be getting ready to debut! Cost is $60.00 per person.Bring your dog as we will also be working on how to get them measured. Maybe we will have time to run a short sequence to practice timing and scribing! Please register in the office by Nov 28th.

Rally O Trial 2009

We will be having a Rally O Trial Jan 31/Feb 1st 2009. Anne Douglas from Ontario will be coming out to judge. We will run 3 of every class as well as the new Team Class.

Funmatches

We will once again be holding our Sunday Agility Funmatches through out the winter. The dates will be December 14th, Jan 4th, Feb 15th and they will all run 10am -1pm. It is a great way to keep your dogs on the contacts through out the winter and also for the new competitors to try out some larger sequences as well as practice timing and scribing and ring crew so you are an expert at your first real trial!! There will be something for all levels so don't worry if you don't do contacts or weaves yet.$10.00 per run.Register in the office or forms will be available on the web site.

Learn to play Snooker on Halloween!!!

Snooker got you snookered? Well you aren't alone! Snooker is the most complicated of the Agility Games. We will be doing a Snooker Games Rules on Friday Oct 31st at 6pm.( yes all of you who want to get your dogs out of the house for Halloween night can come on down to the centre!) Come on out at 5pm and have some snacks and drinks and then we will play snooker for the evening!

We will also hold another Snooker Rules session Dec 30th from 11-1pm for those of you who have never played snooker before.Start to get the idea NOW before you hit the ring with your dog! We will talk about valuable skills you need to train for snooker as well!

Christmas SPCA Drive

As usual we will hold our SPCA collection during the month of November until the Christmas Party Dec 20th. If you wish to donate something here is a partial list of things they need:

Puppy and Kitten Food, Dog and Cat Food, KMR Puppy and Kitten Formula, Dog Treats, Collars and Leashes, Cat and Dog Toys, Brooms, dust pans, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, large orange garbage bags, floor cleaner, bleach, liquid hand soap, dish soap, Windex, paper towel, toilet paper, gauze, q tips, can opener, forks, copy paper, pens, scotch tape, batteries, scissors, disposable gloves, Canadian Tire dollars....

I would like to challenge everyone to clean out all their old dog toys, leashes, collars etc and bring them down to the centre to donate to the SPCA. I know I have TONS of dog toys my dogs never play with ( they like the water bottles and paper towel rolls just as much!!) plus I have leashes and collars my dogs never wear.

Annual New Years Fun Night

We will once again be having our New Years eve dog party at the centre. Games with and without dogs, pot luck etc. For those of you not into the usual New Years eve bash and would prefer to bring in the new year with your pups come on out. Start time 6pm Dec 31st!

Puppies, puppies, puppies!!

I am going to hold some one hour long puppy sessions over Christmas break for those of you with puppies preparing for agility careers. If you are interested in these sessions please contact me or leave your name at the office. These sessions will focus on crate games, building drive, tugging, shaping, working with distractions, recalls, rear end awareness etc.

I am also looking into getting Alex to come out and do a puppy photo shoot for all of us with new puppies. It would be great to try to get them all together in one shot if we can! ( ya right!!! hey I am up for the challenge!) If you have a puppy and would like to be a part of this shoot please let me know. I still haven't caught up with Alex for a date but I will try again in the next week.

BC Regionals 2009

The BC Regionals will be on May Long Weekend in Campbell River.

AAC Nationals 2009

As far as I know the AAC Nationals will be held in Ottawa July 31 weekend. This is NOT confirmed yet but it is what I have heard so far.

Xmas Party

Hi all,

We have changed the date for the Pawsitive Steps Xmas party. It will be Dec 20th not Dec 13th. Hope you all will join us!

Don't forget to bring an SPCA donation as well. We will set up the SPCA table Dec 1st and will take everything down to the SPCA after the Xmas party.

Also remember to get me your titles and Q's for the year! There will be prizes for that as well!
